Hotel Hastal Prague Old Town - guest reviews and rating

Hotel Hastal was right where we wanted to be. Most of the staff were also very kind. We did have a weird thing happen after registering and getting settled we were asked to change rooms. Something to do with the air conditioning needing to be repaired (it was working fine). The rooms we were shown were smaller and one was right next to the elevator. Eventually, they said we could return to our original room, but it was a very unpleasant beginning after almost 24 hours of travel. Also, our first request for a wake up call was ignored. Fortunately, we woke up.

As Rick Steve mentioned in his guide, the walls are thin. The double room was small with a view of the back. We smelled cooking from the kitchen down below, although, that was not that too bad! The bathroom was very small with only a shower but it was filthy. Yes, we paid a discounted rate but that doesn't mean we should get the worst room in the house! The cleaning staff were all sour-faced. They do not smile or greet you as you pass them in the morning. Buffet breakfast was supposed to be from 7:00 - 10:30am but when we went down for breakfast at 9am, most of the offerings were gone and they do not refill. Once a particular offering is gone, they remove even the container. This happened on the three mornings we were there! We have been all over central Europe at various hotels serving buffet breakfasts, and Hastal is the worse and stingy with their foods! Rick Steves should remove them from his guide as it is a total misrepresentation of the hotel services! Overall, the reception staff were not very helpful and their lack of command of the English language made them come across as antagonistic and rude. After one or two questions, we felt they were not very willing to help.

Nuestra respuesta: We all are very sorry for the problems during Mr. Kwan´s stay in Prague and forwarded his complaint directly to the General Manager of hotel Hastal, Mr. Hanslik.

Mr. Hanslik´s response:
Dear Mr Kwan,
We are extremely sorry for the lack in service you experienced in our hotel during your stay. We have inspected the matter and unfortunately the situation was as you described it in your review.
The waitres in charge of buffet breakfast that day claimed that she had thought that all guests had already had their breakfast. Nevertheless, we have not found this as a sufficient explanation for her behaviour as it is not in accordance with our service policy. Therefore we have dismissed her.
Concerning the helpfulness and level of English language of our receptionists, we have to say that the receptionist was still in his trial period, so he does not work in our hotel anymore.
We would like to apologize for difficulties with parking. Unfortunately, there is very little parking space in the city centre and our hotel has no parking facilities directly in the hotel, we still believe that parking under surveillance in KOTVA department store is convenient.
We would like to state that such lack in service in our hotel was rather exceptional and we will take all necessary steps so that a situation like that will never happen again in the future. Please accept our apologies once again.

I travelled with my mother, we found it very well placed, close to everything and lit up enough in the nights to feel safe enough walking around. Very clean, good value for money

Very good location as just on the boarder of the Jewish Quatre and the Old Town.
Room was clean & tidy, though bed not very comfy but bearable, (we stayed Mon-Fri).
Breakfast is good, selection of breads, cheese, cereals & meats, coffee etc.
Didn't eat there for other meals but recommend Club Architech to eat especially if you're vegi & a non-smoker as they have a non-smoking room.
Recommend arranging pick up from the airport with Athos as very good service & the driver will arrange when you want picking up for your flight home.
Overall a ggod price for a great located hotel.

This hotel really exceeded our expectations! We booked this hotel thinking it was really cheap and seemed to be in a good location, and was hoping we made the right choise. And it turned out it was the perfect hotel for our weekend break in Prague! It's within walkingdistance to all the main attractions and the old Town Square. It was clean, modern and the staff were very friendly. We would definately stay there if we went to Prague again!

Really enjoyed my stay in Hotel Hastal. Helpful staff, in particular Josef. The location was excellent in the beautiful Old Town and very close to everything. Lovely quiet area. Room very clean and cosy. It was also very helpful that Athos Travel picked us up and dropped us back to airport. Only bad point for us was we had no bath tub; the rooms with bath tubs were already occupied. Prague is beautiful and we had a wonderful time. Thank you.

We were very pleased with the location of the hotel and its facilities. Staff were very friendly and helpful; their Engish was very good.

The location is great -- it is close to very thing and very quiet too. The staff are very friendly and efficient. But the rooms are not well sound proved. As long as you get quiet neighbours, it should not be a big problem.

Thank you for our excellent stay in your hotel! I enjoyed the hotel and the location, which was very handy. I also liked the communication provided between your agency and us; it made traveling much smoother. I was also glad that we utilized your transportation from the airport as Prague was a little complicated as far as finding places. Creo que ha sido un acierto encontrar este hotel: está perfectamente situado para visitar la ciudad sin utilizar el transporte público. A pesar de su situación céntrica es muy tranquilo. Las habitaciones están muy limpias. El desayuno es correcto y es de destacar la amabilidad del personal. Salvo por el detalle de la cama supletoria, francamente mejorable, fue todo perfecto. Es un hotel recomendable en todos los aspectos.

The hotel was OK. The best part, the breakfast buffet. The food was good and it is included in the hotel price. The worst part, the room was not too clean, towels and bed linens supposedly only got changed every 3 days. We stayed 4 days, and our towels and bed sheets were never changed. And, the hotel room was noisy, we could here the plumbing from rooms upstairs like someone was flushing the toilet or showering right in our bedroom, too much noise from the plumbing. But, not everything was bad. The staff was nice and the hotel had a very good location.

Dakujem Vam za dobru a rychlu organizaciu hotelu, zvlast pani Struzkovej. Urcite sa zase rada na Vas obratim. Len jedno si neviem vysvetlit: taxi-preprava na letisko u Vas stoji 590 czk, to je v poriadku. Prevoz na Hlavne nadrazie stoji 400 czk, co je neumerne vzdialenosti od nasho hotela. Sama som si zohnala taxi za 160 czk.

great, quiet location within minutes of all prague has to offer. staff was very helpful with directions to places and even helped out when my daughter needed medication from a pharmacy. breakfast was ok, that was the only meal we ate there. i would and will definitely go again and recommend that anyone i know who is going to prague stay at the hastal.
